Pistol Stud. Regular
five-card stud is played, except that there is a betting interval
after the hole cards are dealt, and another after each round of
face-up cards is dealt, making five betting intervals in all.
How to play: The only change from ordinary stud is the round of
betting after the hole cards are dealt. This furnishes a good opportunity
for the conservative player to save money, i.e., to get out while
the getting is good, right after his first bad card!
A new set of inferences is available based on the "stays"
on the first round. If most of the players stay automatically on
the first round, play as in ordinary stud. If not, you can usually
count on all but the most aggressive players to have at least a
fairly high card in the hole. However, good players will mix up
their strategies on the first round. They may hold any hole card
for a first round raise. So, on occasion, may you!
